Video: Transparency

This video shows some of the effects we can achieve with Poser's standard tranparency settings - Transparency, which controls how solid the centre of an object is and Transparency_edge, which controls how solid the edges of an object is. For Transparency the useful values from from 0 for solid up to 1 for invisible. For Transparency_edge, as we will see, the range of useful values is rather wider.

We start with a completely solid video, with transparency and transparency_edge both set to zero.

In the first quarter of the video Transparency rises to 1, but transparency_edge remains at 0. At the end of this process the centre of the ball is completely see-through while the edges are still visible.

In the second quarter of the video Transparency_edge also rises to 1, so at the half-way stage the ball is invisible.

In the third quarter Transparency_edge remains at 1 but Transparency drops to zero. At the end of this stage the centre of the ball is now solid but the edges are transparent.

In the final quarter of the video Transparency_edge rises to 5. As this happens the solid visible area of the ball shrinks, until at the end the ball is only half of its original size.
